In Armeria comparison trials conducted at Walters Gardens, Inc., the Armeria Ballerina Series was a clear winner. These selections turned in an excellent garden performance, blooming heaviest from mid through late spring and then sporadically reblooming through the summer months. False Sea Thrift often reblooms when deadheaded.
‘Ballerina Lilac’ produces vibrant lilac pink blossoms. Red and white flowering cultivars are also members of this series. Compared to A. maritima, it also has broader evergreen leaves, stiffer flower stems, and larger 1” round flower clusters. The Ballerina Series includes compact, uniform varieties that are notably taller than ‘Bloodstone’, standing 12-14” in full bloom.
This plant is said to be reliably hardy to zone 6, with some overwintering success in zone 5. In our zone 5b trials with reliable snow cover, all plants overwintered successfully.
