Much like the species, this is a very large, incredibly showy ornamental grass that adds tropical flare to the landscape.
The key improvement over the species is the ability of this selection to maintain its striking variegation all season long. ‘Peppermint Stick’ displays incredible cream, sage green, and dark green stripes in an alternating fashion along the wide, strappy leaves and even up the stout stalks.
This grass has overwintered well for us here in Michigan over the past few years. However, we have had very reliable snow cover and a bit more mild temperatures than typical. To be safe, we will list this grass as a zone 6 though you may find it to be hardier.
In our trials, this grass grew about 7’ tall, though it reportedly grows to 12’ in the south.
