This selection of Bergenia blew us away with its intense pink flowers—a bold color that can be easily spotted from a distance. Individual flowers range from light pink to medium pink, with dramatic dark pink veining. Flowers lighten in intensity with age, but still have magnificent color. Compared to the flowers of B. purpurea, the flowers of ’Sakura’ measure nearly four times as big. Oval-shaped, thick green leaves measure about 8 inches above the ground, with large flower clusters starting just above the foliage.
Sakura is the Japanese word for cherry blossoms.
Bergenias are reliable evergreen perennials and are rabbit and deer resistant.

Bergenia thrives in almost any amount of sunlight, but partial shade is ideal. In northern regions, it will grow in full sun, but it needs afternoon shade in the south. In either region, plants will always perform the best in rich, moisture-retentive soil. However, it dislikes heavy soils and standing water.
Propagate by division in early spring or by seed. Divisions should be replanted fairly deep into the soil.
