Clematis 'Veronica's Choice'

Common Name: Clematis

Raised from a tiny seed by Walter Pennell and named for his daughter in 1973, this blushing beauty is stunning when grown in part shade against a dark backdrop.

It flowers first on old wood in early to midsummer, producing large 6”, double, very pale lavender to near-white blossoms.  Then it flowers again on new wood in late summer, this time producing single flowers.  The wavy petals lend a frilly look to the flowers.

It is a member of pruning group 2 and may be pruned lightly.  Like many Clematis, this one can take a few seasons to come into its prime, but when it does, be ready to be astounded!

A member of:
Group 2—Early to midseason flowering cultivars and rebloomers
These varieties begin to bloom in early summer, with the first flush of flowers appearing on the previous year's growth. This is followed by a second flush flowers appearing on the new growth. These flowers will likely be smaller than the first ones and flowers that were double the first time may be single the second time.

The time to prune this group is in late winter or early spring. Dead and weak shoots should be removed and the remaining shoots cut back to 6-9 inches above a couple of well-developed buds.
