If you’re looking for a perennial that can take the heat and offer a large splash of radiant color to the landscape, this is it!
Members of the Prairie Pillars™ Series have very thick stems, large flowers from summer to frost, and a long vase life.
‘Flame Thrower’ is no exception, forming a massive, well-branched, freely flowering clump in the landscape. Very large 3-4”, two-toned red-orange and gold flowers with a deep copper cone are produced from midsummer into fall, appearing a bit early in the season for coneflowers. The flowers open mostly flat with slightly recurved tips and narrow petals, showing off the two toned color pattern well.
Praised for their large, daisy-like flowers, coneflowers are a mainstay in today's garden. Be sure to leave some spent blooms on the plants in fall because their seeds provide winter food for finches and other birds. The dried seed heads also provide architectural interest in the winter.
