Helleborus 'Green Gambler'

Helleborus 'Green Gambler' Lenten Rose

Common Name: Lenten Rose

This year, we are excited to offer you one more exciting new color in hybridizer Chris Hansen’s WINTER THRILLER™ Series of hellebores.  This new series was extremely popular when we introduced it last year with a mix and four individual color strains.

Though green-flowered hellebores have typically been known as slower growers in the past, ‘Green Gambler’ is just as vigorous and floriferous as the others in this series.  Large 3in, single flowers are bright apple green, some with burgundy spotting, picotee, or veining on each petal.  A few will even be double!

Like most seed grown hellebores, approximately 10-15% will bloom the first year, followed by 100% bloom the second year.

Hellebores are the harbingers of spring, blooming for six weeks or more beginning in late winter. They are often flowering during the Christian season of Lent, from which they get their common name, Lenten Rose. This is the perfect plant for naturalizing in moist, woodland areas where its extensive root system will spread as far as it is allowed.
