Helleborus 'Red Racer'

WINTER THRILLERS™ Series

Common Name: Lenten Rose

Perhaps the most striking color of all the WINTER THRILLER™ hellebores, ‘Red Racer’ produces very large 3½”, dramatic velvety deep red to burgundy red flowers.  Such an unusual color to see in the garden in early to mid-spring!  The perfectly rounded flowers are held atop strong stems, with mature plants producing an incredible 75 or more blooms per plant.

The evergreen foliage is attractive in its own rite, emerging a dark mahogany color in early spring before maturing to dark green.  It provides a superb complement to the red blossoms.

Hellebores are the harbingers of spring, blooming for six weeks or more beginning in late winter.  They are often flowering during the Christian season of Lent, from which they get their common name, Lenten Rose.  This is the perfect plant for naturalizing in moist, woodland areas where its extensive root system will spread as far as it is allowed.
