Heuchera 'Berry Smoothie' PP21871 COPF

Common Name: Coral Bells

Over the past few years, Terra Nova has put great emphasis in their breeding work on developing cultivars in a rainbow of unique new colors like orange, yellow, and even a pink spotted variety.  Next in their lineup is the incredibly bright rose colored variety, ‘Berry Smoothie’.

The foliage ranges a bit in color with the season, emerging bright rose pink in spring and darkening to purplish rose in summer.  It is absolutely lovely when planted with pink and purple flowering bulbs.

The parentage includes the heat and humidity tolerant H. villosa as well as H. americana which is native to the eastern half of the US.  Its villosa parentage ensures the plant will be a robust grower, quickly forming a large, boldly colored mound in the landscape.

This plant is a Heuchera villosa hybrid. The villosa species is a large, late blooming type that exhibits an increased tolerance of high heat and humidity over other species. Most produce cream flowers in midsummer, though they are grown more for their fantastic foliage. H. villosa is native to the southeastern United States.

Coral bells are easy to grow and blend easily with most other perennials in the landscape. Because of their low, mounding habit, they are often used as edging along paths or in containers. Try cutting a few of the tall flower scapes for fresh bouquets.
