This hot new sport of ‘Sum and Substance’ is totally unlike anything you have in your collection. Described as a “perplexing permutation”, each leaf of this hosta is a little different, a work of art indeed.
Several shades of green, gold and white appear on the dramatically twisted, curled, folded, and corrugated leaves. White streaks near the center of the leaves appear to have been painted on with watercolors. Pale lavender flowers appear in mid to late summer.
‘Totally Awe Sum’ looks nothing like its parent and is a much smaller plant that shows off its totally unique characteristics best in a container.
Hostas are exceedingly popular perennials in today's gardens due to their versatility in the landscape. Their subtle colors, tall flower scapes, and broad, coarse leaves fill a niche in garden designs that few other plants can achieve. Their large leaves provide excellent coverage for dying bulb foliage. Hostas also grow well in city environments where the air may be polluted by car exhaust, etc.
