Humulus lupulus 'Aureus'

Common Name: Hops

Long used for flavoring beer, Hops is an important commercial crop. However, it is also grown for ornamental purposes. This is the vine to use if you are looking to grow a quick screen or to cover a pergola. You will not believe your eyes when you see how fast this vine grows! Though it is deciduous, its massive amount of branches and stems will provide screening coverage year round.

'Aureus' has beautiful, bright yellow leaves, making it particularly useful for brightening up dull areas in the landscape. In addition, long chains of greenish flowers (resembling seed pods) are produced in abundance in the summer, changing to tan as they mature. This is the part of the plant that is used in beer making. Hops is a twining vine requiring a strong support on which to climb.
